Martin van Maële | La Grand Danse Macabre de vifs | Framed PrintMartin van Male was an early 20th century French artist best remembered for his erotic and satirical illustrations. Many of his works push the boundaries of what might be considered good taste, though he worked in a very different cultural environment and his tongue was always planted firmly in cheek. Condition is good with wear consistent with age and a slight
very sensitively arranged abundance of funeral flowers
not dissimilar to the novelty gift cards you can buy today
but I didn’t know there was a miniature out there
Boutet de Monvel’s beautiful
circa 1848
particularly something meant to be kept only briefly then thrown away
Antiques with this imagery are very hard to find- I only have about half a dozen pieces in my collection
there are 3 hand colored illustrations
Condition is fair with some chipping at both bases
Interior is very good
handmade from wood and dated 1937 on the back
