ORFORD & ORONTES - Two-sided cruise plan from 1934
Description
ORFORD & ORONTES - Two-sided cruise plan from 1934Orient Line: A fold out (24" by 28") cruise plan dated 1934 with the ORFORD on one side and the ORONTES on the other. The ships were the last two in a class of five ships. Seven decks are shown for both ships without class distinctions. Cruises from London and Southampton are shown along with rates in pounds. The ORFORD, like two of her sisters, was a victim of the WW2. ORONTES sailed on after troopship duties until scrapping in 1962. Very good
but by the time this brochure was printed in 1961 just two ACES remained
It all seems rather risqué for an era when CBS didn't dare allow married couple Lucy and Ricky to sleep in the same bed
OREGON sailed until 1955 while WISCONSIN kept going until age fifty in 1980
There is the great photo of the FAIRWIND on the cover
It was business as usual for Holland America
But she was never a suitable companion for the MAJESTIC nor OLYMPIC
The ship was brand new when these images were taken
First Class views show the Ball Room
just two years after this plan was issued
The twenty-eight page brochure is filled with watercolors by well-known German graphic artist Hans J
